The "Shinzoge Janbo" New Ivory mahjong set in all its glory.
The elegant grain running through the tiles can clearly be seen. |
NO LONGER AVAILABLE The "Shinzoge Janbo" New Ivory Mahjong Set was originally produced by Nintendo under the name "Yakuman New Ivory" set. Nintendo recently stopped producing the set and we can infer that they sold the licence because the set immediately reappeared on the market as the "Shinzoge Janbo". The quality and specifications of the tiles are exactly the same as before. Plus, ALL FOUR "Red Five" tiles have been restored to the set. The elegant "Shinzoge Janbo New Ivory" set is an excellent example of what can be achieved with modern mahjong tile production technology. Each finely constructed tile is shot through with a delicate "pinstripe" grain that runs vertically through the surface giving it the warmth and class of ivory. The grain elegantly sets off the character on the tile and gives the set a delicate, understated beauty that I have not seen in any other set of tiles. The tiles made to Japanese specifications, with NO ARABIC NUMERALS and measure 1 inch x 3/4 inch x 5/8 inch (25 x 16 x 18mm) The set comes complete with 4 x Yakitori tesserae, scoring tallies, wind marker and dice and is presented in a soft brushed fabric covered presentation case with handle and snap- shut clips. This is surely the finest Japanese mahjong set available today.
The set includes 144 tiles and features:
